When the article came out, the * Manila Standard received tons of flak in which the “Fierce and Fabulous” Malu Fernandez deigned to issue an even more offensive response * She writes for the broadsheet
An Open Letter To Malu FernandezDear Malu Fernandez,There is nothing funny about being a bigot. Having an “ascerbic wit” does not entail irresponsible and insensitive statements such as what was written in your article. Bitch puhleeze, DO NOT confuse bigotry with humor. I thought your article was the height of pompousity but frankly, I find your response even more offensive. Your offense is not based on a socioeconomic issue. Your offense was based on your sweeping statements of condescencion, discrimination, and intolerance against your own countrymen. You belittled and mocked the “culture of the other”. Did you forget that this culture is part of your identity, too? It’s a shame how some people like you are too quick to judge others who can only afford coach and cheap cologne. The way I see it, you clearly hate yourself. You hate how you are being represented by these hardworking people. You are ashamed of your heritage, your ethnicity, and of your background. It disgusts you because it reminds you of your pathetic efforts to elevate and separate your status from the, according to you, people with “lower socioeconomic background”. You hate that these people represent you. Projecting your “tongue-in-cheek” criticism is a pathetic excuse in denying your insecurities and seeing yourself in them. The OFWs are many times over more noble than your pompous, ignorant, pretentious, humongous, pissant ass. You are not as witty as you might wanna believe. The fact is, you are not even remotely entertaining. FYI bitch, the “moneyed class” DO NOT fly coach.
